In Final Act of Service, Chicago Women’s Elite Cycling Generously Donates $13,000 to Amy D. Foundation
Giving Tuesday, November 29,2022
Since its inception in 2015, Chicago Women’s Elite Cycling (CWEC) has elevated and enhanced women’s cycling through 1) educating both new and experienced racers, 2) inspiring women and girls in sport to become confident athletes regardless of their age and/or experience level, and 3) recruiting and supporting a composite elite team to compete nationally among professional ranks.
For nearly a decade, CWEC has exemplified its mission in various ways, including: hosting dozens of cycling clinics and training camps, providing riders with access to professional directors and race-day support staff, welcoming experienced professional guest riders as mentors, hosting a women’s regional championship road race, supporting various local race series, and creating a membership program to connect the broader community to women’s cycling. Through CWEC’s ongoing financial, intellectual, and emotional support for riders over the years, CWEC-supported athletes have participated in 85 events nationwide and had over 450 racing opportunities. Perhaps most significantly, three CWEC-supported cyclists have gone on to sign professional UCI Continental and Women’s World Tour contracts.
As CWEC’s work draws to a close, the board wishes to continue to support programs that align with its mission and vision. Thanks to the generous support of longstanding members, donors, volunteers, and program participants, CWEC is pleased to announce a contribution of $13,000 to The Amy D Foundation. The Amy D Foundation encourages and supports young women through cycling, inspiring the celebration of healthy challenges and empowering the confident pursuit of lofty dreams. The Amy D Foundation will honor CWEC’s legacy by continuing a shared mission of supporting women and girls in sport. It is with this generous donation that The Amy D Foundation programming will bring riders and events to the Midwest.
Chicago Women’s Elite Cycling and its supporters have made a unique and lasting impact on the sport, both in the lives of the participants its programming directly served but also in the normalization and validation of women/girls in every aspect of cycling: competing, coaching, managing, training, and much more. It is CWEC’s sincere hope that its critical work will continue to live on and inspire countless women and girls in the sport of cycling.
